THE TECHNOLOGY OF THAI MASSAGE.For the pressure to have the desired effect, the masseuse must apply strictly a certain force. The Thai system includes soft tissue massage and manipulation.Pressure is almost always applied when massaging soft tissues. The traditional Thai healing system is primarily noted for its wide variety of positions—both the patient and the masseuse. Many manipulations in Thai massage also require the application of force - sometimes significant, and in some cases, just light pressure. Forceful exposure can be extremely effective - of course, subject to caution.METHODS OF PRESSURE ON SOFT FABRICPressure is the main element of all soft tissue massage techniques. Skillful pressure affects different tissue levels and stimulates the flow of energy. Applying force with a wide surface—such as a palm or foot—creates pressure that extends sideways and doesn’t go too deep. If the same force is applied with thumb or elbow reaching a smaller area, the pressure will be more focused, going deeper. In any case, you should start with a light pressure and increase it gradually. It is necessary to monitor the patient's reaction: yes, deep pressure can be very painful for some people.Thumbs up to the thumb (Fig. 1)It is always produced only with a finger pad, and no other way. The method of Thai massage is unique in that thumb pressing can be done simultaneously with stretching. The result of this double impact, tissues become more susceptible, responsive to lymph outflow and energy.Thumb Steps (Fig. 2)This method is used to stimulate the flow of energy in one part of the body. Thumbs become almost tightly together and then press one after another in the direction of the energy flow. If this movement is made from right to left, then first raise the left finger, shift it two to three centimeters to the left and produce pressure. Then the right finger is pulled up to the left finger and also press. This sequence repeats as your fingers move along an energy channel. Such "steps", of course, can be taken from the left to the right. The high of the palmThe palm applies pressure on a wider area of the body compared to pressing with the thumb. The duration of a forceful impact is different - from a few seconds to a few minutes. Sometimes the shaking of the palm is accompanied by a fluctuating hand movement. The pressure level is regulated with hands and upper body weight. In order not to get tired, the masseuse must keep his hands straight. There are three types of such a press: one palm, two palms and the Butterfly press.CAUTION! When performing any pressure, start with a light press and increase its strength gradually. The New Palm Sunday (Fig. 3)The main focus is on the base of the palm. This technique is used to apply intense pressure on the most extensive soft tissues of the body, such as the back muscles, glutes and hips. The Press Of Two Hands (Fig. 4)In this case, the degree of the pressure is regulated by the hand above. The Butterfly Crush (Fig. 5)It is carried out with two hands, and the foundations of the palms should touch. This method allows to increase the area of the force exposure.Pressing up the Elbow (Fig. 6)Pressing your elbow allows the masseuse to achieve a deeper impact compared to pressing your palm. It is used in the massage of hips, bums and shoulders, where the muscles are quite thick. If this causes the patient pain, the upper part of the forearm can be used instead of the elbow - this way the applied force is distributed to a wider area of the body and the pressure is reduced.CAUTION! When performing any pressure, start with a light press and increase its strength gradually.Pressing up the knee (Fig. 7)Pressing your knee frees your arms, which means you can stretch at the same time. As a result, the impact with the knee becomes deeper. The method is mainly used in massaging the buttocks and the back of the legs.Pressing up the steps (Fig. ?When exposed to steps, the pressure is distributed over the largest area. Hip massage uses the middle of the foot, and thick muscles, such as the glutes, are massaged using the heel or the front of the foot, allowing for the deepest pressure to be applied.CAUTION! When performing any pressure, start with a light press and increase its strength gradually.Squeezing The Butt (Fig. 9)The technique of butt-pressing is that the masseuse distributes most of his weight on the legs. Such pressure is particularly useful for fixing certain parts of the torso when performing manipulations.Standing Pressure (Figure. 10)When using this method, there is a very high pressure on the affected area, so it should be used with utmost care. The method is effective for massage of the back, glutes, legs and hands.CAUTION! When performing any pressure, start with a light press and increase its strength gradually. The healing effects of pressingContinuous pressure on large areas of the body gives a pleasant sensation. However, if such pressure becomes too long, a feeling of discomfort or pain appears. Exact pressing on energy channels stimulates a flow of energy, while deep pressing warms up, making the connective tissue (fascia) surrounding the muscles more elastic. Pressure can also improve lymph and blood circulation in surface capillaries.METHODS OF MANIPULATIONManipulation is a movement performed on any part of the body in order to achieve the effect of stretching or twisting.Manipulation always takes some effort. The masseuse must correctly choose the degree of maximum stretching and twisting. Lack of a sense of action can lead to trauma. In order to prevent it, the patient also needs to act appropriately: he must know how to behave and what position to take during one or the other appointment.Almost any part of the body can become an object of Thai massage. When necessary, the masseuse can pull for it, push it, lift it, shake it and rotate it.Under no circumstances should you engage in manipulation to the detriment of pressure. That is a grave mistake. Pressuring soft fabrics prepares them for the necessary manipulations, increasing their effectiveness.Pressure technique is more effective in eliminating pain and stimulating energy flows.Stretching the limbs (Fig. 11)Stretching your legs is a very important technique. It requires a lot of effort and at the same time a sense of measure. In the absence of proper practice, a patient's leg muscles, glute muscles, and even back muscles can be overstretched. To avoid this, the masseuse should always carefully monitor him: as a rule, excessive stretching requires an immediate reaction.Rise & Shine (Fig. 12)Most treatments involve lifting some part of the patient's corpse. Lifting is one of the simplest methods of manipulation, you just need to perform it smoothly, avoiding pushing.Shaking Up (Fig. 13)This method is used to massage the limbs and is expressed in rhythmic up and down movements. If the patient's body is slightly pulled on himself, the created tension will make the masseuse's action more effective. The return of (Fig. 14)In fact, during rotation, there is an even stretching of tissues around the joint, which can produce a very impressive effect. Regular rotation can even cure arthritis.Pull-Up with a Push(Fig. 15)When pulling out one part of the torso, the rest of its parts must be fixed. Sometimes it turns out that only the patient's weight is enough for this. But in heavy pulling, pushing in the opposite direction is used, typically using your legs. The masseuse achieves the most powerful pull when he uses his entire body weight while bending backwards for it.The healing effect of the manipulationThe Thai massage system assumes that it is possible to achieve a positive effect only if the movements are performed with a slightly greater amplitude than is possible without extracurricular assistance. A good Thai massage specialist always knows how far one can stretch one or another part of the body without the risk of injury or pain. Regular massage using the Thai system restores flexibility to such an extent that many patients call it a miracle. Manipulation requires a close relationship between the masseuse and the patient. This makes it possible to affect such areas of the body that are not available with other massage systems.M. Mercati " Thai Massage "
